Meet the BDCA Team
Meet the British Deaf Carp Angling Committee team: dedicated to organising matches, fundraising, and promoting inclusivity, uniting deaf anglers through competitive and community-driven fishing events.
- Chair
Mark Cunliffe
ChairI’m Bolton born and bred but for last 35 or so years lived in Sunny Cornwall!
I started coarse fishing at a young age with my older two brothers. Caught my first carp at 12 years old and then changed to carp fishing. Fished mainly at Smiths lake in Bolton before moving to Cornwall where I fish various lakes. I am more of a pleasure carp angler than a serious one!
I have been in this group since we started in 2012 and currently Chair of the group.
- Treasurer
Gary Watton
TreasurerI’m Gary Watton originally from Bournemouth in Dorset but since 2009 live in Fleet in Hampshire.
From a young age I fished the Dorset Stour and Hampshire Avon for all coarse fish with my brothers and Dad mostly Barbel, Chub and Pike. After that I moved onto still waters catching Tench and eventually started targeting Carp in my late twenties.
Many Carp later I am now rather addicted and currently a member of a couple of syndicates and clubs.
I have been a BDCA treasurer ever since we started in 2012 and have only missed one BDCA event so far!
- Committee
Jack Sturdy
CommitteeMy name is Jack Sturdy, and I come from a long line of fishermen. Proudly Yorkshire born and bred, I have a wonderful wife and three young children. I also run my own business as a builder.
My dad taught me how to fish when I was about seven years old, and as I grew up, I joined match fishing. In my 20s, I became a carp angler. I founded BDCA in 2012, and I’m looking forward to many more years in the deaf carp anglers community.
I have been profoundly deaf since birth, and fishing is my greatest passion.
- Committee
Darren Blunt
CommitteeMy name is Darren Blunt, I just see myself as an ordinary deaf lad who is passionate about carp fishing over 30 years, still now. My late dad took me and my older brother fishing to the rivers and lakes as little boy. I have an enjoyable time fishing as for me, it’s an obsession with chasing target carp in history lake on the big carp scene for many years.
I do still roll the corkballs for Trent Baits since 2014, Trent baits bossy Danny is very good working relationship and friendship with me.
The legend is Derek Rance, I was very lucky to meet and fished with him. He was a huge influence and inspiration to me, and also a ‘father’ role model in carp fishing for me in a way, I do sorely miss him.
